Frostbite

Second book of the Vampire Academy series, Frostbite is a great book that made me cry! So hopefully you have read the previous books so that I don't spoil anything!

This book starts with Rose, and love interest Dimitri, travelling to a famous Guardian to grade Rose. Unfortunately, when they arrive they find the house has been raided by Strigoi. Everyone is dead and an investigation is made.

Later when Dimitri and Rose are training, they have a moment of anger and Rose kisses him. It's cute but they don't see much of each other after that thanks to Dimitri.

Out of fear, the school takes a trip to a ski lodge for a few weeks where Rose meets royal Moroi, Adrian Ivashkov. And then of course, another attack occurs.

Rose begins to get involved with Mason Ashford, who has always had a crush on her. She is hoping to forget her feelings about Dimitri as he starts dating Christians Aunt.

While everyone is enjoying themselves at the lodge, Guardians begin to look further into the incidents. Strigoi usually only stay in packs of 1 or 2 that's what makes this situation weird. So they start getting clues and hints about where they may be. Dimitri is one of the ones that know this information. Of course, he tells Rose. Rose tells Mason. I think it would be a big mistake to your Strigoi-killing-obsessed boyfriend where a group of Strigoi are.

So Rose and Mason start getting closer and physical but before anything happens, Rose discovers she doesn't love him and never will. Probably a bad time but better than rather later. And Mason storms out, furious. Rose later finds that him, Moroi Mia (we met her in the last book as an annoying little bitch who now, since her mum died, is nicer and friends with them) and Eddie. She is furious and runs off with Christian, Lissa's Moroi boyfriend, and travells to the same place. Fortunately, they haven't found any Strigoi....yet.

They meet with the others and when they are going to leave, a van filled with humans (yes humans) capture them and take them to a building. They are tied up and left without food or water. So there they are. Rose, Christian, Mia, Mason and Eddie. Briefly, Rose finds, through Lissa's eyes, that Adrian also uses the element, Spirit as does Lissa. He tries to contact her through a Spirit induced dream though they run out of time.

So the humans are actually 'hired' by Strigoi. Two, one superior than the other. The Strigoi use Eddie as a feeder. They state that either Christian or Mia will survive. As they are Moroi, they can drain someone of blood and turn into a Strigoi. They refuse of course until...

"I'll do it" Christian is released and walks over to Rose, at first she thought it may have been planning something but then she wasn't sure. He leant over her neck and his fangs touched, not pierce his skin, seeming like he was drinking her blood when really he was actually burning her cuffs. The humans guarding them were stupid enough to believe they were doing it.

Rose finally broke out and after defeating their guards, helped the others out. They set off to find an exit but unfortunately, ran into the two Strigoi. The others were able to escape but Rose bravely faced her first Strigoi fight. Before anything could happen though, Mason stupidly stepped back inside, out of the protection of sunlight and pointed a gun at the superior vampire. Shooting didn't work of course and the part that made me cry: the Strigoi snapped his neck and let the other eat him. So short, but so sad!!!

So Rose was furious by that point and shouted for them not to touch the body. And along with Mia's water ability, Rose decapitated the vampires. Her first Strigoi kills. Guardians ended up arriving afterwards and pulled her away. Great timing -_- bit too late. Later, back at the Academy, Dimitri kisses her. It is a cute moment!

Not my favourite of the series, though a memorable one. It is a wonderful book, as well as eventful. Adrian is also an important character you need to watch out for!
